The Mercury Mariner Hybrid
When the Ford Escape
hybrid was declared the Truck of the Year at the North American
International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2005, Ford also
announced that Mercury Mariner hybrid was just around the
corner.
In fact, the Mariner
hybrid was launched on July the 11 with a base price of $29,840.
It took Ford five
years and 100 engineers to successfully integrate a hybrid
powertrain into the conventional Escape to produce the hybrid
Escape, and that experience should make the Mercury a very
reliable vehicle.
Combining two
electric motors, one to drive the wheels, the other to turn over
the gas engine, with the standard Mariner 2.3 -liter
four-cylinder gas engine, the Mariner hybrid is expected to get
33 mpg in the city 29 mpg highway, yet perform as well as the
200-hp V-6 version.
